Romania. A place that has become so special to me. This was my home from early November through the beginning of the New Year and I am so grateful to have spent my time serving there.

I walked into Romania knowing very little about its culture, but quickly fell in love with it. Romania is a place that is deeply rooted in tradition and is eclectic in nature as Romania was controlled by many different countries/political powerhouses throughout its history. Each change in political power meant a new ideals and new religious influence. Today only 0.5% of the population in southern Romania are Christians, with the primary religion/belief here being mysticism/witchcraft.

The purpose of our team’s efforts (in partnership with the local church) was to bring the hope and joy, found only in Jesus through the power of the gospel. The current church plant we are partnering with is working tirelessly to restore life and raise up a church of generationally diverse individuals that know and love Jesus. To raise up leaders that have a desire to bring light to a very dark city/region. Dark in a spiritual sense, but also literally, we had 5 sunny days in our last month and a half there!

Through our partnership with Hope Church (biserica speranța) we worked with Ukrainian refugees, taught English, lead Bible studies, partnered with local schools to distribute Christmas shoeboxes (similar to the Operation Christmas Child ministry), distributed free resources and Romanian bibles all over the city as well as into the surrounding communities. We also came alongside the ministry as we facilitated youth events and women’s conferences for the people in Craiova. Furthermore, we helped Hope Church prepare for their Christmas season! Needless to say our time in Craiova was very busy!

As busy as it was though, this place grew to feel like home. The people of Craiova and Hope Church welcomed us with open arms! It was a blessing to have served and served alongside them in this season!

Also I know I haven’t posted a blog since leaving Guatemala, but so much has happened in our time here and it’s been incredible to see God moving through Craiova and the people in this city.
